Many schools require each student to take an english, science, math, language, and history class each year. These classes are required each year so students can build their intelligence. Many schools also offer electives such as art, gym, culinary and photography. These electives are not required. If schools were to have a required class called Life 101, students would be able to build their understanding about the world they live in.
In the Life 101 class, students would learn about the problems that occur in the world today. In some classes some of the worlds problems are discussed but they are not covered fully. For example, unemployment would be discussed and other issues. Students would form a solution to the problems discussed to better the world.
Another part of the class would be to focus on individuality. Students would compare and contrast one another in a positive light. By doing this, they would understand the importance of one another and how unique each and every one of us are. This class will also teach students that being your self is important for others will respect you the way you are. By learning this, students will hopefully be themselves and not follow the footsteps of others.
Another topic discussed in Life 101 would be the right choices. For example, students will learn about drugs and alcohol and the negative affects they have. They will also learn about relationships. By learning about relationships, they will understand what a positive relationship is versus a negative relationship. Steps to realize and escape a negative relationship will be discussed. There are several bad relationships that exist in the world today. Therefore, learning about them and how to get out of one will be beneficial.
Overall, Life 101 will be a course designed to inform students about real life possibilities. It will prepare each and every one of them for the life ahead which will only benefit them in the end.
I think you make a really good point about Life 101 developing the individuality of the students. It is really important for people to understand the importance of their individualism and uniqueness. Everybody does things in their own way. I think that teaching students about realtionships, whether positive or negative, drugs, and alcohol, are all steps towards becoming a good decision maker. This is very important to understand as a young member of society. It is very important to be able to understand and grasp a situation and decide whether it can have some negative outcomes if pursued further. In the life beyond highschool, nobody is really there watching over our shoulders saying what we should and should not do. So as u said developing the individual personality is key, and developing good judgement follows.
