Facebook is a social networking site meant for people to interact with one another. It is a great site for friends to talk to family members and colleagues. Facebook was made for this purpose but it has exceeded its purpose. Many people use this site on a daily basis and post inappropriate things. Although, their posts may seem fine to them, it could affect them in the long run. Before hiring, many jobs now turn to Facebook to see their potential worker. If a high school students posts pictures with an alcoholic beverage in their hand, this may cause trouble.
The problem with Facebook is that people are making one at a very young age. This site was meant for college students but in today’s society, middle school students are making a Facebook. Many people also post inappropriate pictures. For example, they may post a picture of themselves at a party on New Years Eve with alcohol. Another example is revealing pictures. Many people tend to upload pictures revealing themselves. Bullying also occurs on Facebook. Instead of using it to talk to friends and family, people are harassing one another through wall posts or even statuses.
Facebook also allows people to upload statuses whenever they would like to. In a status people include where they are, what they’re doing, quotes, or how they feel. In doing so, this appears on everyone’s news feed and friends can comment on the status. With this, people can track one another which can be good or bad. People sometimes say too much in a status which can cause drama. Therefore, with Facebook, the best thing to do is to keep what you say to a minimum because your friends have the opportunity to see everything you say and do.
Kayla, your introduction paragraph is very insightful. You make a good point when you say that high school students are posting pictures with alcoholic beverage in their hand, and how it will affect them later on life.I never thought about the fact that people are making Facebook at a young age, could really be a reason for why Facebook has so many reasons wrong with it. You state that the sight was meant for College students and not for middle school students, that is exactly true. Facebook has certain standards, however, a person can lie when making their own personal Facebook. A person may be eleven years old and then lie on Facebook and say that they are fifteen so they can make a Facebook. You go on to say, that people are the basically the reason why they are having trouble in the future because of what they post. You close by saying "the best thing to do is to keep what you say to a minimum because your friends have the opportunity to see everything you say and do", if a person is truly your friend they would already know what you are doing, so why even have the need to post it?
